François Naude
R&D director
Altsense - South Africa
My studies in fine arts and applied design led to a career in graphic design and illustration. An interest in the digital communication medium brought me to tinderbox interactive. It was there that Damian Stephens and myself formulated the creative vision that later became the blueprint for type01, founded in 2000. As multimedia director of type01 idea_LAB, I'm involved in the research and development of conceptual programming, information visualisation and interaction. Exploring all areas of multimedia, I hope to find new ways of utilising its potential for communication. Maintaining my commitment to networked culture, I created altsense.net, a web site that aims to provide a collaborative environment for the interactive evolution of ideas through diverse projects.
Contribution:
Cross-Cultural Communication and Interaction
altsense.net is a South-African based website with international participants from diverse and contrasting fields within the interactive paradigm. The unique evolution, approach and variety of content on alt.sense provides interesting and often contradictory insights into various channels of online dialogue. I would like to explore these insights discussing:
[ a ] alt.sense and alt.sense projects as a cross-cultural platform for conversation and participation.
[ b ] negative impact and effect of multimedia, functionality, automation, usability and information hunting on conversation and message.
[ c ] psychological and behavioral observations of the networked community in a cross-cultural, inter-disciplinary and unmoderated environment.
