Contribution:
On social relevance of creative means and approach
Through the analysis of current social processes, and the exploration of potential future developments, media designers shall gain tools to enable them to address their work with a sense of social responsibility. Automatization and global production are causing the labor market to dwindle, while the transformation into a "computer society" frequently resembles a poorly prepared leap into the vast and somewhat uncharted territory of electronic and digital technologies. To guarantee the meaningful exploitation of the new technologies available to us, it is imperative to strive for comprehensive, efficient and integrated education in order to produce "generalists" equipped with highly developed interdisciplinary skills and cultural competence. In short, media designers need to be extremely aware of their social, cultural and public responsibilities.
