The pianographique is a multimedia instrument and not a computer application. As an instrument, it requires a score and a player. Three compositions made up of 26 images and 26 sounds will be played by a several artists.
We will witness different combinations of the same graphic and audio
alphabet that will demonstratively illustrate the respective sensitivity
and virtuosity of the players. To enhance the projected video image,
we shoot the hands of the player on the keyboard as well as his face,
and we display the score of the real time performance (a pianographic
score is a sequence of mouse coordinates and keyboard keys). Thus the
« result », its « causality » (the hands) and its
consequences (the score) are directly interpretable by the public, so
as to convey the feeling that they are witnessing a genesis whose process
they understand and, consequently, master. This is what we call a continuum:
a reality given on many sides so as to surround the spectator, leaving
him with the impression that he is at the center of the experience.
